A Bigger Splash
In this film Tilda Swinton plays Marianne, a major rock star who has had to have a throat operation and is convalescing in a villa on an isolated Mediterranean island. All seems idyllic and Eden-esque (complete with a presumably symbolic local snake) when temptation arrives in the form of her former record producer and ex-lover Harry (Ralph Fiennes) who has recently discovered that he has a grown-up daughter Penelope (Dakota Johnson), who is travelling with him during a break from her studies.
Snowtown
John Bunting is Australia’s worst serial killer, convicted for 11 murders he committed between 1992 and 1999 (a 12th could not be proven). These murders took place mostly in the suburbs of Adelaide, but the bodies were discovered some 150km away in Snowtown, hence the name of the movie (internationally released under the title ‘The Snowtown Murders’).
Spectre
The James Bond franchise is now 53 years old and is in its 24th movie and sixth actor. With such a weight of history it is hard for the film makers to be too bold: they have a rigid set of expectations to meet and a $300 million budget to recoup.
In Order of Disappearance
Stellan Skarsgård plays snowplow driver Nils, who one day finds out his son has died – seemingly of a drug overdose. But Nils knows his son does not do drugs, yet the local police consider the case closed. A tale of revenge follows…
The Rover
The Rover takes place in the Australian outback, 10 years after ‘the collapse’. The normal rules of society have broken down, the law is no longer upheld, and individuals are beginning to come to terms with living in world where everyone seems to be free to be judge, jury and executioner if and when they feel like it. It sort of feels it may be taking place well after normal society collapsed, but still a while before it had become quite as bad as in the original Mad Max.
Survivor
Pierce Brosnan plays ‘The Watchmaker’, a ruthless killer who is out to take out Mila Jovovich’ Security Director as she may foil a terrorist attack being plotted…
The movie is basically one big chase between the two. But the way they go about everything they each do makes so little sense for supposed experts in their fields that it undermines the whole movie… They seem each to choose the hardest and least logical route to do anything and everyting.
Run All Night
Well. Another Liam Neeson Action Movie.
Liam Neeson’s acting is fine and so is Ed Harris’, but in the end there just isn’t anything special to this movie. I would write more if only I could remember anything about the plot.
Utterly forgettable. Only watch it if you are bored and can’t think of anything better to do.
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Another comic-book adaptation? Yep. A Very Stylish One too! The plot is not all that relevant but here you go: street kid gets recruited into secret spy agency Kingsman and things happen.
It is at heart a grand spoof of the old Bond movies from Roger Moore’s days – but updated to today’s standards of action and visual spectacle – or maybe even setting some new standards at that.

Taken 3
I remember Liam Neeson saying a couple of years ago: ‘Taken 3? I don’t think there’ll be a Taken 3. She can’t get taken again, that’s just bad parenting’. But Taken 3 did happen. Kim does get taken again. And it is bad parenting indeed.
It is also a bad movie unfortunately.
