Blade Runner 2049

Ridley Scott’s original “Blade Runner”, released in 1982, is an iconic science fiction film, ground-breaking in its striking sets and notable for some fine acting performances. It was therefore always going to be a challenge to do a sequel, and the task has fallen to director Dennis Villaneuve (who directed “Arrival” and “Sicario”). It has to be said that the visuals and sets are stunning, every bit as striking as the original and then some. Every bit of the rumoured $185 million budget is up there on the screen for all to see.

Creed (5/10)

Full disclosure: I have never been a fan of any of the Rocky movies. So now we have installment 7 of the Greatest Boxing Legend of American Cinema. It does however have several things going for it before even seeing it: it is the first movie in the franchise not written by Stallone, and Rocky is now only a supporting character rather than the lead.

Ant-Man (7/10)

Michael Douglas plays Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man – but now too old and worn to don the miniature superhero suit himself, he sets out to find a suitable replacement. Who knew that could be Paul Rudd (as Scott Lang), who shows that he can do more than just being the cutesy boyfriend in yet another middle of the road rom-com.
