Hotel Artemis has a lot going for it. A simple but creative premise: in a not too distant future, criminals can get emergency medical attention in a members-only Hotel. An interesting ensemble cast, led by Jodie Foster and supported by Jeff Goldblum, Dave Bautista and Zachary Quinto to name a few. A great director of photography Chung-hoon Chung, who captured the atmosphere in movies like The Handmaiden and It. So things are set for a great movie.
Whilst Brandon Fraser has all but disappeared from the big screen, his legacy of The Mummy franchise lives on – and now even gets a reboot with none other than Tom Cruise following in his footsteps. The original series is known for its outright silliness, and this update tries to keep some of that whilst at the same time taking a slightly darker approach: suitable at least in name, as it is the first movie in Universal’s so-called ‘Dark Universe’.
Another comic-book adaptation? Yep. A Very Stylish One too! The plot is not all that relevant but here you go: street kid gets recruited into secret spy agency Kingsman and things happen.
It is at heart a grand spoof of the old Bond movies from Roger Moore’s days – but updated to today’s standards of action and visual spectacle – or maybe even setting some new standards at that.
