A Discovery Pick by Bart Hartgring — not a full review

Released around the same time as The Matrix (and even filmed on some of the same sets), Dark City couldn't compete against The Matrix' visual explosion in cinemas; but it explores very similar themes by means of a very different story and style.

The story

A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans.
